Overview:
The severe acute respiratory syndrome related novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 has caused the pandemic of the respiratory diseases (COVID-19) around the world in 2020 (1). Developing rapid and sensitive diagnostic tools is key for successful patient management and curbing the disease spread. Several CRISPR-Cas12 based SARS-CoV-2 detection assays have been developed (2,3). Comparing to conventional RT-PCR based tests that are hindered by the need for expensive lab instrumentation, Cas12 based tests are ultrasensitive, rapid and in low-cost POCT formats.
